Glens of Antrim Historical Society to focus on migration

THE NEXT meeting of the Glens of Antrim Historical Society will take place in St Mary’s Parish Centre, Cushendall, at 8.30 pm on Friday, February 22.

The speaker is Jennifer McLernon and her topic is ‘Irish Migration - focused on NE Antrim’. Migration has shaped and been shaped by the history of Ireland for thousands of years. The area of North East Antrim, from Larne to Ballycastle and inland to the fringes of Ballymena, has migration patterns which at times reflect those of the rest of Ulster and Ireland and at times seems to remain a place apart.

Jennifer McLernon is a native of Coleraine. She emigrated to Australia after college in Belfast and after returning to Northern Ireland she has had a varied professional and academic career, teaching in the tertiary sector in England and Northern Ireland and then as an administrator with the Northern Ireland Civil Service.

She is presently studying for an MSSc degree with Queen’s University Belfast.
