Radio Cracker welcomes MLA as Special Guest

LOCAL MLA David McIlveen made a guest appearance on Radio Cracker to talk about Human Trafficking in Northern Ireland.

Mr McIlveen took the opportunity on Stephen Reynold’s morning show to highlight the fact that Human Trafficking remains an important issue over the festive period. He wanted to encourage his constituents to stay vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour to the police.

Also speaking on the issue was Kat Duncan, from Green Pastures in Galgorm.

Speaking following the interview, Mr McIlveen said: “This is a time when people are full of Christmas cheer and are looking forward to spending time with their loved ones. However, we must not forget that there are thousands of women in this country who are living in torment and fear, under the control of people who have trafficked them into the country. It is imperative that we as a community remain focussed on combatting this heinous crime and I would urge anyone who sees anything suspicious to report it to the police immediately.”

Kat Duncan from Green Pastures added: “I believe that the main thing we need to do as a community is to get behind the police and politicians. We are the ones who see things and allow it to happen. Without our support and unless we work alongside the police they are limited to extent as to what they can do in terms of legislation.”
