Swann welcomes ‘common sense’ approach to less favoured areas
LOCAL MLA Robin Swann has welcomed the announcement by the Sinn Fein Agriculture Minister that the Less Favoured Area Compensatory Allowance (LFACA) will be paid early, calling it “a victory for total common sense”.
Mr Swann said: “Farmers in Less Favoured Areas have to work hard to make a living off the land as do all our farmers across Northern Ireland.
“The maintenance of a cash flow is paramount at this time of year especially when we consider the extra outlay because of the terrible weather conditions
“The Minister and the Department have demonstrated common sense in making this payment early this year. The effort to ensure that this and the Single Farm Payments have gone out on time is to be warmly welcomed.
“Where there have been delays, I urge the Minister and her department to give assurances to farmers that they will hard work to speed up the payments being processed,” said Assemblyman Swann.
