NORTHERN Ireland boasts an incredible range of creative talent, from award-winning locations, directors and writers to widely recognised actors, visual artists and digital companies.

W5, Northern Ireland’s award-winning science and discovery centre has teamed up with DCAL and Aer Lingus to offer a series of ImagineNation events this Spring celebrating digital creativity right here in Northern Ireland and will start with an epic weekend of events on February 16 and 17 including the 2nd annual Heroes and Legends film/comic inspired convention.

Following on from last year’s weekend of Orc antics, Alien encounters and Muppet mayhem, W5 and Emerald Garrison will present even more iconic costumed characters, more lecture theatre talks & draw-along sessions and more fan-built sets & props including some incredible new Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter scenes. The weekend will provide visitors of all ages with amazing photo opportunities and interactive experiences.

The event will also offer the opportunity for fan-boys and fan-girls to get a special something signed* by special guests from the world of fantasy film and television including:

•James Cosmo – Scottish actor James is known for his roles in Highlander, Braveheart, Narnia, Trainspotting and currently Jeor Mormont in HBO’s acclaimed Game of Thrones

•Chris Rankin - Percy Weasley from the Harry Potter Films

•Hugh Mitchell – Colin Creevy from Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets

•Martine Beswick - Bond Girl - Zora in From Russia With Love, Paula Caplan in Thunderball

•Mark Maher – Irish born Mark from Thurles is a special effects artist and sculptor and has worked on making sets and models for Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy

•Professor Greg Maguire – Greg is undoubtedly one of the world’s top animators whose work is featured in James Cameron’s Oscar-winning Avatar, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and box office smash, Terminator Salvation. Greg is currently Professor of Visual Communication at the University of Ulster in the School of Art and Design

So if you can imagine having your photograph taken in the Orc’s lair… or striking a pose next to a superhero… or shaking hands with Percy Wesley from the Harry Potter films… then imagine the fun you can have at ImagineNation this Mid-Term (16-17 February) at W5.
