Anyone else out there feeling let down by 'Ashes to Ashes', the sequel to the utterly magnificent 'Life on Mars'?
I suppose you could say that David Bowie's musical offerings in the 70s were streets ahead of his lightweight 80s offerings - and the same could be said of the new series launched on BBC 1 on Thursday night.
It was all a little bit too much. Gene Hunt and the boys racing up the Thames in a speedboat to rescue the confused damsel in distress was a highpoint in an otherwise unsatisfying effort.
Been there, seen that, bought the DVD. Won't be purchasing the second series. Ashes to Ashes indeed. Sadly.
In contrast to the same old, same old dished out by the drama department, the Beeb's culinary culture vultures have served up a mouthwatering and exciting main course in 'Masterchef'.
Easily the best viewing of the week. John Turode rocks.
