AUGUST is a busy month on the kart racing scene at Nutts Corner Motorsports Centre in the run up to the Ulster Karting Club's biggest meeting of the year for the Irish Kart Grand Prix from August 22-24.
This Saturday’s meeting at the circuit will be promoted by the karting section of the Colerane and District club and is a double header Ulster Cup and Northern Ireland championship meeting.

Importantly though, the 9 August meeting will be the big anticipated return to the circuit by the incredible 125cc and 250cc Superkarts. Originally it had been hoped that they would have been back at the last meeting at the circuit recently but circumstances beyond the UKCs control (including torrential weather) meant that the return has had to wait until this weekend.

The recent meeting at the circuit really tested out all the abilities of the non-gearbox drivers with a mix of torrential rain and dry conditions really testing out the all round abilities of the drivers. In the pro-karts, Ballymena’s Mark Dunlop will also be out to close on the drivers above him. He will start in fifth overall and with less than a heat’s worth of points between him and third this Saturday will be extremely important.

The big local challenges are in the fastest non-gearbox class for the 125 Rotax Max machines.

Stuart Henderson from Muckamore and Alan Davison from Randalstown are almost neck-a-neck in the top five and still very much in the hunt for the class title. The pressure though is also closing from behind also from Ballymena’s Brian McCarte and Randalstown’s Josh Gault.

In the gearbox classes, all eyes will be on Antrim’s Stephen Foster, Broughshane’s Mark Mongomery and Randalstown’s Geoff Gaston and all will no doubt be using Saturdays meeting as part of their run up to the Irish Grand Prix.

The first of the heats gets underway at 10am with finals in all classes starting just after lunch.
