As their busy winter programme draws to a close, Ahoghill Young Farmers’ Club members are already looking to summer months featuring sports nights, stock judging competitions and, of course, the annual trip to Balmoral Show.

The Club ended 2016 on a high as they celebrated their 85th anniversary with an anniversary dinner in November when the last few generations of Ahoghill Young farmers were out in full force at a night which enabled the club to present a cheque of £5000 to their chosen charity Turning Point NI.

Over the last year, members helped the Ahoghill in Bloom team by litter-picking, hedge cutting and weeding and in November were invited to help celebrate their Champion of Champions Award at Stormont.

Members kicked off the New Year a series of events including ‘a rovin supper meeting’ around members’ houses and the agm on January 17 when new office bearers were elected as follows: Club leader, Michael Patterson; Assistant club leader, Andrew Greer; Secretary, Rachel Gillespie; Assistant secretary, Hannah McLarnin; Treasurer, Nicole Connor; Assistant treasurer, Michelle Petticrew; PRO, Kathryn Speers; and, assistant PRO- Rachael Chesney.

The club extended thanks to all last year’s office bearers for their hard work, and to their president and vice presidents for their hard work and support.

Events continued in February with a games night and this was followed later in the month by a trip to Tobermore Golf Centre.
