Ballymena Academy is taking part in the BBC Radio Ulster School Choir Of The Year competition to be broadcast on Radio Ulster this Sunday, March 20, at 2pm.

Following on from the success of the first competition last year, 65 choirs from across Northern Ireland will be singing to impress as they battle it out for a place in the final in junior and senior categories.

Presented by John Toal and Kerry McLean (pictured), and recorded at seven venues across Northern Ireland, the series culminates in a live final from the Ulster Hall on Sunday, April 17.

This fifth programme in the series, on Sunday 20 March on BBC Radio Ulster at 2pm, is hosted by John Toal from The Ulster Folk and Transport Museum at Cultra and features 11 choirs all vying for a place in the grand final.

In the Senior category, the following schools will be competing for a place in the final: Our Lady & St Patrick’s College, Knock; Bangor Academy; Carrickfergus Grammar School; Bangor Grammar School and Ballymena Academy.

They will be performing for judges Rebekah Coffey, Donal McCrisken and Richard Yarr.

The winning choirs will feature across a range of BBC Radio Ulster’s programming and events during this year.
