A FAMILY-RUN chippie is frying high after being crowned the Ballymena and Antrim Times Chip Shop of the Year 2015.
Today, the Times can reveal that The Chippy in Antrim has scooped top plaice in the hotly-contested competition after netting the most votes from happy customers.
Proud manager Joanne Graham, 33, who runs the shop said: “Winning this competition has been great because it was voted by members of the public. We’re buzzing.
“We have entered a number of competitions but this one feels special because it is voted by our customers and that shows we are doing things right.
“Staff have been given a real boost by this award.
“A lot of customers come into the shop and they have always said how pleased they are with us so it is nice that they took the time to vote for us.
“I’d like to thank everyone who voted, it means a lot and we are very grateful.”
Having been open for over 30 years the Chippy in Antrim is now an important part of the community and there’s a real sense of community spirit.
Joanne added: “We have lots of regular customers who don’t even need to tell us what they want as soon as we see them we know their order.
“You get to know people and it is great to see the same faces over again.”
Joanne said the secret to a great fish and chips is simply down to expert quality and the consistency of the food.
Joanne said: “We are passionate about what we do and I think that comes across. In many of the categories we received a score of 100% and we are delighted with it.”
“People keep on coming back because they know they won’t be disappointed.
“There are people who have been coming since I started working here and that was 15 years ago.”
Everyone is delighted with the award including Joanne’s baby daughter Chloe, who you will find wearing a specially designed chippy t-shirt to celebrate!
