Members of Glarryford Women’s Institute stepped out in style recently when their March meeting took the form of a Visitors’

Night Fashion Show.

President Margaret Ferguson welcomed members and Slemish Area WI visitors to the evening which saw some of the Glarryford ladies model a range of stylish outfits and accessories provided by Ballycastle boutique owner Kathleen McArthur of K.Co.

Jean Sayers gave the vote of thanks on behalf of members.

The monthly competition was won by Olive Gillespie, with Anne Johnston taking second place and Gertie Milligan taking third. The winning entries for the annual Slemish Area meeting were also chosen.

Glarryford Women’s Institute meets in Glarryford Young Farmers’ Hall at 8pm on the second Thursday of each month and is always ready to welcome new members to its fold.

Monthly meetings take place from September to May with an annual day away in June.

Last year saw Glarryford celebrate their 60th anniversary when they were treated to a Mayoral reception at The Braid and held various events to mark their Diamond Jubilee including a 60th Anniversary Dinner.

Women’s Institutes were originally based exclusively in rural areas, but now exist wherever there is a need.

Each Women’s Institute is self-governing within the framework of the Women’s Institute Constitution and Rules.

There are approximately 6,000 members throughout Northern Ireland, grouped to form 165 Institutes within 21 Areas.
