STUDENTS from the Northern Regional College are celebrating the success of three students following the recent Northern Ireland Hairdressing Competitions.

The event which was hosted at the Hilton Hotel Belfast showcased the talent and inspirational creative hair styles designed by trainees across FE Colleges and professionals across the province.

Three NRC students entered the Junior Fantasy category.

Aoife Laverty, a VRQ level 3 student from Ballymena Campus, was awarded 1st place with a butterfly theme created by effective hairstyling to include a massive hair piece with real hair used to make bows and butterflies. The theme was generated using black, white and silver colours only.

Aoife O’Boyle, a VRQ level 3 student from Magherafelt Campus, gained second place with the star sign H’Aries as her theme. Aoife acquired the skull of a ram and using real hair and various diamante pieces alongside plaiting; twisting and curling techniques she created a very effective ram’s head including massive horns. Her theme was generated in cream, brown and black colours.

Irene Higgins, a VRQ level 3 student also from the Ballymena Campus, achieved 6th place with the theme ‘Till death do us part’ where she created a bride and groom from the dead. For the bride she used real hair pieces to create a hat which she added to a very apt hairstyle from beyond the grave. The groom was effectively styled to match his bride and the face facial make-up was amazing. Together they made a scary pair of newlyweds. Again her colour theme was black, white and silver.

To achieve these results in one category was an outstanding achievement for the College.

Rosemary Finlay, NRC Curriculum Manager for Hairdressin, said: “We are very proud of the student’s achievement in this competition, they are a credit to themselves for all the hard work and preparation they did prior to the competition.

“The standard of work was exceptional and the college would like to congratulate the students on their success.”
