Two members of Killycoogan ILOL No.48 have been honoured and celebrated for the length of their dedicated service to the Lodge.
Brethren and friends gathered at their hall at Blackstone Road, Portglenone, on June 10, for a truly unique event in the history of the lodge - the presentation of 70 year jewels and certificates to Bro. William Gordon and Bro William John Kyle.
A lifelong member of the Lodge having been a member in excess of 70 years, Bro. Gordon also served a number of those years as Worshipful Master. He was also a founder member of Killycoogan Accordion Band and also a member of the band.
Over the years Bro Gordon has been joined in the Lodge by his son and two grandsons.
Fellow recipient, Bro William John Kyle, a native of the area, has also been a member of No 48 for in excess of 70 years.
Although spending most of his working life Scotland Bro Kyle could be relied upon to return to the area annually for the July Lodge meeting and to take part in the July 12 parade.
At the presentation event, Killycoogan Accordion Band provided music and all present were served supper by the ladies, after which PIGM Wor. Bro. Cyril Glass spoke highly of the two very special guests.
He then called upon Wor Bro David Johnston CGM and Wor Bro Alan McLean PIGM to present Bro Kyle with His Jewel and Certificate.
Bro Glass accompanied by Bro Johnston then presented Bro Gordon with his Jewel and Certificate.
The memorable evening came to a close with a few songs by Bro Ivan Glass and also from Bro Johnston and his wife, accompanied by Elizabeth Wilson.
