The Northern Ireland Young Artist of the Year competition was launched in the Braid Arts Centre and Museum, Ballymena with a mouth watering £1,000 first prize, sponsored by Vision Express.

The competition is organised by the Rotary Club of Ballymena and is designed to encourage serious young artists from 19 to 30 years old.

The winner will also receive a trophy and have their work exhibited in the Braid Museum and Arts Centre.

Also supporting the competition is the Artworks NI charity and Raceview Mill.

Rotarian and gallery owner Roy McKeown said: “This will be a great opportunity for any young artist. The goal is to encourage young artists, discover hidden talent and maybe even help kick start a new career.”

Ballymena Arts Development Officer Rosalind Lowry said that Ballymena Borough Council were delighted to support the competition.
