Ballymena Garden Club members have been learning how to prepare their gardens for spring at their recent meeting.

Derrick Turbitt, from Portstewart, gave a presentation on the subject to those gathered, including several new members.

Derrick, who is a well known daffodil breeder and exhibitor, demonstrated that he was an expert in the cultivation of a wide range of other spring bulbs including snowdrops, crocuses, irises, hyacinths and tulips.

This was the final talk of the winter series.

Now that daffodils are starting to bloom, members are preparing for the club’s 89th annual Spring Show which will be held on Saturday, April 30 in Broughshane Community Centre when the special guest will be Richard Reade, Vice Lord-Lieutenant of County Antrim.

The show will be open to the public for viewing, having afternoon teas and purchasing plants from 2pm until 4pm.

Further details will be published in mid-April.
