Support for families with disabled children

Workshops are being held in Ballymena and Belfast aimed at supporting families with disabled children as they move into adulthood.

The Boardroom at The Cottage, 5 Greenmount Avenue, Ballymena, will be the venue for a workshop on Tuesday, February 21, from 10.30-12.30, and the Conference Room in the Merrion Business Centre, 58 Howard Street, Belfast, will host a workshop on February 23 from 10.30-12.30.

The Transition Consultation Workshops are being held by Contact a Family and Carers NI are holding a series of Transition Consultation Workshops to understand families’ experiences – what the issues are and where there are gaps in information and support.

The charities are also asking families and professionals with experience of transition, to complete a survey, which will help them develop a project to families in Northern Ireland through this process.

Lyndsay Wallace, Contact a Family Northern Ireland Manager, said: “Moving into adulthood is a challenging time for all young people and their parents, but for families with disabled young people those challenges and worries are amplified.

“It’s so important they get the right support so that it is not a time of crisis and stress”.
