The main residence of the O'Hara's was at Lissanoure Castle; but over a course of time, as the family grew, they would branch out, and more residences would be built at various places throughout their lands.
As already mentioned, castles, manors and fortified homes were built at Portstewart, Ballymoney, Crebilly, Cleggan, Liminary and Slaght, to name a few.
According to investigations into property tenures carried out by the Stuart Kings of England, within the manor of Crebilly lay the townlands of "Gannanaghmagherky, Ballylissecossane, Ballytulleghenesane, Ballecarnenck, Ballybregagh, Ballykeele, Tannagoe, Ballynemarlagh, Ballynelessan, Ballycrankill, and Ballytullagh. Ballydonevaddin, Ballydirban, Crossneslerny, Grannagh, Slate, Tullaghgarley, Ballyoffey, Ballygregagh, Bally . . . Kildoney, and a water mill, Aghecleach, Semnenerne, Grenagh, Killgad, Tawnaghbrack, parcels of the manor of Crebilly, and two fairs at the town of Crebilly…"
You will notice that some of these place names are not spelled correctly, but that is because the English clerks who were transcribing the information, didn't know how to translate the spelling of the Irish place names into Latin (from which the above names were then re-translated).
Some of the names are blazingly obvious, others are not; anyone with any ideas as to where they might be answers on a postcard, please, to The Editor, The Ballymena Times!

However, the investigation goes on, and not only includes those lands owned by Cathall at Crebilly, but also goes into the lands owned at Loughguile. There it mentions the townlands of "Ballymicknilly (Ballymcneilly), Ballynegathel (Ballynagashel), Moyawer (Moyaver), Clontefenan (Clontyfinnan), Ballyviely (Ballyveeley), Tullelosse (Tully), Dromheilen (Drumheelan), Leganlie (?) and Corkee (Corkey), all which last mentioned premises lie in the Tuagh (District) of Loghgyle (Loughguile) within the barony of Dunluce."
And still more are mentioned, as the inquisition brings to light all the lands in the area, and who owns them. It is helpful to me, as it mentions people and places of significance, such as "Cahall O'Hara, of Slatte, and Tyrell O'Hara, of Townebrack, and Henry O'Hara, of Claggin".
Whilst the inquisition was far reaching, and details who owned what and where, the bounds of this research are not; it is not my intention to state who owned what, and when, for no doubt it would start a debate that would last longer than I intended, and someone would surely provide evidence that I was wrong somewhere along the line.
For this reason I will discuss the small part of this vast subject that I have studied, that being the residences at Crebilly, Slaght, Cleggan and Tawnybrack.
