CHUJO Karate Association has presented its Colin McMinn Annual Memorial Awards for the fifth consecutive year.
The recipients for 2009 were Jay McGowan (Junior Award) and Shannon Freeman (Senior Award).

The awards were handed over to both winners by Colin's widow Pat McMinn.

Coach Dan Redmond said: "It is five years since we lost our dear friend and member Colin. He endured his illness for a long period of time before passing away on November 6, 2004. He did not complain about his illness.

"Always wearing his famous smile he took it all in his stride. He amazed everyone with his fighting spirit and this spirit was evident when he turned up on most weeks to coach the young children, even though the one hour of coaching left him somewhat exhausted."

Mr Redmond said that throughout the year, members are monitored for this award and that this year's recipients have shown some of Colin's dedication and spirit.
