This is one of Cllr Ashe's final activities as Mayor ahead of the Council's AGM this week where a new Mayor will be selected.

Councillor Billy Ashe, outgoing Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, this week presented a fundraising cheque for £3,850 to the Mayor’s chosen charity, Alzheimer’s Society NI.

The presentation marked the final charitable donation by Cllr Ashe as Mayor of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council ahead of the Council’s annual general meeting this week which saw the election of the Council’s first lady Mayor, Councillor Audrey Wales MBE.

Cllr Ashe said: “As my chosen charity, I am delighted to present the Alzheimer’s Society with a cheque for £3,850 which will help the charity deliver much needed services to the 16,000 people living with dementia here in Northern Ireland.

“I am proud that the Mid & East Antrim Borough Council has supported the charity by raising vital funds which will go towards the charity’s caring role in providing information and advice, care and support for those suffering dementia as well as their families and in researching the cause, cure, care and prevention of the disease.

“Over the past year the Council has worked with the charity on a number of fundraising initiatives including an exhilarating charity fire walk in April this year, as well as a charity auction bid to win a coveted framed Northern Ireland Senior Team Shirt, signed by the UEFA Euros 2016 team themselves, and we are delighted with the total amount raised by the local community.”
