THE annual Ballymena parade will have 30 lodges and 20 bands taking part.
For the first time in many years, the ‘field’ will not be at Ballee.
The parade assembles at Waveney Road at mid-day and will go through the town to Ballymarlow.
The route for the parade is: Waveney Road, Galgorm Road, Pentagon, Lower Mill Street, Wellington Street, Ballymoney Street, William Street, Broughshane Street, Broadway, Church Street, Bridge Street, Harryville Bridge, Henry Street, Larne Road, Pennybridge Roundabout, Larne Road Link, Larne Road Roundabout and Moorfields Road.
Last year there was a rousing cheer for a new lodge on its first Twelfth. For years, Ballymena was the headquarters of the Royal Irish Regiment before the disbanding of the Home Service Battalions.
A new lodge – Garryowen LOL – was formed from former members of the Royal Irish regiment, including the Ulster Defence Regiment, and they are still recruiting.
This year they will be led on parade by a band from Glasgow.
The Grand Master of Scotland, Ian Wilson, is the guest speaker and Rev. Ian McLean will conduct a religious service.
GLENARM
THE 12 Lodges of Braid district will gather for the Twelfth in Glenarm.
The parade assembles at Shane Road at mid-day and walks through the picturesque village to the demonstration field at Straitkeilyhtley Road.
It is one of the smallest parades of the day with 400 Orangemen taking part but it can certainly claim to have one of the best views, out across Glenarm Bay towards Scotland.
It is three years since the parade was held in Glenarm and a large number of tourists are expected this year, as the British Campers Association will attend the Glenarm Castle Open Day – on the Tuesday and Wednesday after the Twelfth.
It is expected that a lot of visitors will come to the area over the weekend, take in the Twelfth and then the Open Day.
Eight bands and four sets of lambegs will take part in the parade and the guest speaker will be Charles Cefferty, County Grand Master of Central Scotland.
The route is: Shore Road (Cloney Bungalows), Shore Road, New Row, Mark Street, Vennel Street, Altmore Street, Main Street, Toberwine Street, Shore Road, Ballymena Road, Straidkelly Road.
PORTGLENONE
SEVENTEEN lodges will take part in the Triangle Parade in Portglenone.
In other years, Cullybackey and Ahoghill are the venues for the demonstration.
Orangemen assemble at 1pm at Hillinstown Road and walk through the village, crossing the River Bann into County Londonderry. It is almost certainly the only Orange parade that walks in two counties on the same day.
The demonstration field is at the Community Centre at Gortdole Road, where a religious service starts at 2.30pm.
This is a small parade but there is a good range of music with pipe, flute and accordion bands on show, as well as lambeg drums.
