Visitors and passengers travelling through Belfast International Airport will soon be treated to artwork showcasing some of Northern Ireland’s most beautiful views and scenic landscapes.

The airport has launched an Artistic Mural Competition to commission two pieces of work which will be displayed in key positions in the International Arrivals (14m x 2.3m) and Domestic Arrivals halls (two parallel walls 16m x 2.3m and 13m x 2.3m) of the airport.

The competition is open to community artists who wish to submit designs and then create an artistic mural to fit one or both of the areas.

Designs should represent an artistic view of Northern Ireland and the competition will run until April 29.

Jaclyn Coulter, Belfast International Airport’s HR Manager, said: “The airport is delighted to be able to offer community artists the chance to get involved in this project which will showcase their work to the millions of passengers, from Northern Ireland and further afield, who pass through our doors each year.

“It’s an ideal opportunity to combine artistic talent with the beauty of the scenery of Northern Ireland.”

The winning murals will be seen by an audience of over 5 million passengers who it is anticipated will pass through Belfast International Airport’s doors over the next 12 months.

Artists are encouraged to submit their designs via email publicart@bfs.aero or by post to the HR Department, Belfast International Airport, Belfast, BT29 4AB.

Along with their design, participants must include name, date of birth, address and contact number as well as a list of materials/proposed costs that will be required to produce their design.

The two winning designs will be shortlisted by a panel of judges and voted for by the public through social media.

The winners, who will receive £500 each, will then be invited to visit the airport, view the space and create their mural for display. The airport will pay for the cost of materials used.

It is anticipated that the murals will be completed by middle of June 2016.
