An Antrim based music producer is on the right track to becoming one of Northern Ireland’s biggest new DJs after making it through to the final of a major competition.
Brett Kydd triumphed in the semi-final of a competition run by one of Europe’s major dance music festivals ‘Ultra’.
He’s now secured a place in the final, which will be held in the Wright Venue in Dublin this Friday, June 13.
And after beating five other hopefuls in a live DJ battle last month he is now hoping the date won’t be unlucky for him.
As far as how Brett thinks he’ll do in the final, he is more interested in the exposure in playing at such a prestigious club will give him.
“For me it’s not all about winning, I see this as a great chance to get excellent promotion for my own original tracks and my skills as a club DJ,” Brett told the times.
Brett is no stranger playing outside the country having already played in club mecca, Ibiza, as well as during the Isle of Mann TT weekend.
Brett feels this experience stands him in good stead to make an impact in the competition.
“Playing in bigger clubs to more people has helped me get to the point I am, I have local support but playing in front of strangers is really where you learn to make your mark,” Brett added.
The Wright Venue is one of Ireland’s largest nightclubs, hosting the biggest nights in the country with chart topping EDM DJs like Hardwell, AfroJack and Martin Garrix playing regularly.
Headlining the competition on Friday night will be Ryeland one of the UK’s top dance music producers who sprang to fame under the moniker ‘Kidd Kaos’.
This sentiment has been echoed by the Wright Venue’s resident DJ and brains behind the competition itself, Rory Lynam, who commented: “The standard has been exceptional. Brett is one of the finalists in the toughest DJ competition this country has ever held, having listened to all of them play live, it’s safe to say they are also the best DJs in the country.”
Brett’s also been making waves closer to home, with local radio station Blast 106.4 FM has reeling in his talents for a presenting role on their Saturday night dance show.
Brett added: “It’s just such a really exciting time at the minute going from not being known at all to being weekly presenter on such well-loved radio station.”
You can check out Brett’s winning set on Soundcloud and hear him every Saturday on Blast 106.4 FM.
