Assembly Election 2016: Girvan thanks the people of South Antrim

The DUP's Paul Girvan has thanked the people of South Antrim for backing him in his successful Assembly election campaign.

The Ballyclare man topped the poll in South Antrim, and was elected at the second stage of the count.

“I’m very happy and I’ll be even happier when my two colleagues cross the line or are elected below quota,” he said.

“This is a good result for the DUP. Our vote is up and we have increased our share of the vote. This is an endorsement of the party, of Arlene Foster’s leadership and the five point plan we put forward.”

He added: “I’d like to thank all the electors who went out and voted for me. For them to put their faith and trust in me is a very humbling experience,” he said.

Mr Girvan’s party colleagues Pam Cameron and Trevor Clarke are also hopeful of retaining their seats.
