One of Ballymena’s most popular walking spots, Currells Avenue is to be given a much-needed spring clean courtesy of the Department of Regional Development (DRD), MLA Paul Frew has revealed.
After receiving complaints from the public after the state of place, the DUP Assemblyman contacted Ballymena Borough Council on the issue and discovered that the litter-strewn land causing concern at Currells belonged to DRD.
“I would like to thank Council and DRD for their assistance on this matter and for restoring this beauty spot to its original status,”said Mr Frew.
“DRD have appointed contractors to clear this land of litter and dumping and that this should be completed within the next week.
“I would ask people to be more responsible when out and about and to ensure they take all rubbish away with them. There is absolutely no excuse for leaving litter behind that blights the look of the area and could damage children or pets if they stand of pick up such items. This is terribly irresponsible and destroying the experience that Currells Avenues gives to so many people who enjoy it.”
