Enterprising Cullybackey College Year 8s get down to business

The programme helps to support pupils as they make the big leap from P7 into Year 8.

Among a number of key life skills the students developed personal confidence and presentation skills.

The students also assessed their personal abilities, while analysing and solving problems.

The charity, which is part funded by the Department of Education, works with young people of all ages and abilities to encourage entrepreneurial qualities at a young age, empowering young people with the skills and confidence to succeed in life and work.

The organisation is part of Junior Achievement Young Enterprise (JAYE) globally, with a purpose to inspire young people to engage in enterprise and entrepreneurship.

As well as working on skills for the future as they started a new term, Cullybackey College Year 8s also enjoyed the opportunity to ‘go back in time’ earlier this month when they embarked on their annual residential which took them to the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum.

The young students experienced first-hand life as a child in Victorian times by dressing up in old clothes and going to school for a lesson, before heading to court for real life trial.

They also participated in some craft activities, creating souvenirs to take home to their parents and made some home-made soda bread on an open fire.

A College spokesperson stated: “An enjoyable time was had by all involved and it was definitely a trip that will be remembered for years to come, where many firm friendships were formed.”
