Frew welcomes electricity network plans for Ahoghill

A local Assemblyman has welcomed new plans that could see the removal of the high voltage overhead electricity network in Ahoghill.

DUP MLA Paul Frew said he was glad to see that progress is being made in replacing the overhead power lines with an underground network for the village.

He added that he had been contacted by a number of constituents who have had terrible problems with birds perching on the lines and the associated fouling on their property.

“In many ocasions NIE are unable or unwilling to resolve the issue due to costs or practicality but I have received a commitment from NIE that they are seeking the go ahead for the improvement scheme,” Mr Frew said.

He added: “This resolves the fouling issues but will also bring Ahoghill into line with other villages like Cullybackey and Broughshane where the works were completed a number of years ago.

“NIE are currently at the planning stages and will also require relevant statutory and landowner consents but if it is to go ahead they plan to have this work completed by September 2017.”
