Mayor of Mid and East Antrim Borough, Councillor Billy Ashe has congratulated management and staff of The Braid River Service Station on their valiant fund-raising efforts that enabled the purchase of a lifesaving cardiac defibrillator for use at the site.

Cllr Ashe said: “The staff at Braid River Service Station, put their best efforts into this very worthwhile project by way of abseiling down the Europa Hotel in Belfast; a static bicycle ride outside their own store; a quiz night in the local Smithfield Arms; a darts’ competition in Fountain Bar and an in-store raffle.”

Proprietors Chris and Isobel Warwick said that as a result of the various events and through the generosity of some of their suppliers they were very pleased to be one of the first stores in Northern Ireland to have achieved their target.

“We now have the defibrillator mounted on the wall at our store where it may well be a lifesaver for someone visiting Ballymena or a resident. This defibrillator will be available to those who need it 24 hours a day- seven days per week,” said Chris.
