43 pupils and seven members of staff from Slemish College had been looking forward to visiting the Polish city on Sunday for a three day excursion.

However the trip had to be postponed following news of the cancellation of the flight.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Due to the cancellation of this morning’s flight to Kraków, the planned visit will not go ahead. All staff involved want to express their disappointment at having to make such a decision.

“It would have been a pleasure to take such a lovely group away. Full details about refunds will follow later this week.”

Meanwhile parents have been voicing their disappointment and anger at the airline on the Times Facebook page.

One said: “Absolute disgrace the way Easy Jet handled this situation all these pupils who had worked so hard for their exams going on a History trip, which their teachers had worked so hard to organise. All let down with no explanation had a very, very disappointed girl here last night shame on you Easy Jet.”
