The out-going Mayor of Antrim, Councillor Roderick Swann, this week hand over a cheque to his chosen charity, the NSPCC.
The money was raised during his term of office, with a number of events held over the year to fundraise for the charity.
Speaking at last week’s full council meeting, Cllr. Swann thanked his fellow councillors for their support of his charity fundraising and paid tribute to the many local volunteers who had helped.
“This week I handed over a cheque to the NSPCC for £2,704, which I think is a tremendouse effort,” Cllr. Swann said.
He added: “I would like to publicly thank all the volunteers for their help in raising this money.
“I know there is some more money still to come in and I hope we can reach £4,000.
“A lot of volunteers stood outside the likes of Tesco and Asda collecting, sometimes in particularly cold weather, and I would like to thank and congratulate them for all their efforts.”
