Woman barricaded herself and daughter in room to escape gunman

Police in are appealing for information after a woman was threatened with a gun during an incident in the Hillside Drive area of Dunloy on Monday (April 25).

Detective Constable Marty McCaw said: “Shortly before 10.30am, police received a report that a masked man armed with a handgun entered through the back door of a house in the Hillside Drive area and threatened the female occupant with a gun.

“She managed to run to a bedroom where she barricaded herself and her daughter in until police arrived.

“We are making every effort to identify the man with the gun. He is described as being around 5’ 7” tall and of stocky build with a local accent. He was wearing a black sweat top, dark or blue bottoms and a woollen mask.

“I am appealing for anyone who may have been in the area around the time and witnessed anything suspicious, or who may have any information regarding this incident, to contact detectives from Reactive and Organised Crime branch in Coleraine on 101.

“Alternatively, information can be given anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 101.”
