Ballymena businesses have received more than £1.35 million in loans from Michelin Development, the tyre giant’s small enterprise support scheme, since it was launched in 2004

More than 400 jobs have been created to boost the local economy during this period and the latest beneficiary is Smiths Engineering Works Ltd.

Established in 1962 and now employing 30 staff, the firm provides products and services to companies across Europe including the rail, aerospace, automotive, oil and gas sectors. After first receiving funding in 2006, the business has since secured over £80,000 in finance from the scheme, helping it to open up new markets, create more than 20 jobs at its Pennybridge site.
