Public views sought on future of car parks

Consultation on Church Street car parks opens to the public

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council is asking the public to share their opinions on the future set up of two of Ballymena’s car parks.

Church Street 1 is located to the rear of the former Tesco store and contains 199 spaces. Church Street 2 is beside the Northern Regional College and contains 117 spaces.

Both car parks are currently operated as Pay On Foot, meaning users pay for parking time when they are ready to leave.

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council, which has operated these facilities since April 2015, believes changing them to Pay and Display – whereby users pay on arrival for an estimated period of time – could save £121,446 a year after the initial cost of set up.

The consultation process will seek the opinions of users of the car park, Ballymena Chamber of Commerce, the Ballymena Improvement District, NSL who currently operate the car parks on behalf of Council and any affected staff.

The consultation period will run until 4 May 2016 with a final decision expected in July.
