Portglenone girl Charlene McFetridge has been chosen out of hundreds of people across Northern Ireland as a regional finalist for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.

Charlene, who has been wearing glasses since she was seven, was delighted to win through to this stage of the competition and received a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.

She said: “I was totally thrilled to be shortlisted and it was a huge surprise when I got the call! I’m a really proud specs wearer and enjoy wearing glasses for work and pleasure! My mum encouraged me to enter and I thought why not give it a go!”

Valerie Penney, Store Director at Specsavers Ballymena said she was delighted that Charlene had reached the regional finalist stage of Spectacle Wearer of the Year, adding: “I’d like to congratulate Charlene and wish her the very best for the rest of the competition. We’re pleased that one of our regular customers is a local finalist. Charlene is a great ambassador for specs wearers locally!”
