Police have revealed details of a major drug seizure in the Ballymena area which occurred at the weekend.

The find is understood to be linked to a recent ongoing investigation into drugs throughout the Co. Antrim area.

As part of that investigation, District Support Team officers located suspected cocaine and cannabis and a sum of cash at a house in Antrim last Friday (August 5).

In the wake of this seizure, officers conducted a further search of a property on Saturday (August 6) in the Ballymena area.

This resulted in the seizure of 18 bars of suspected cannabis resin with an estimated street value of approximately £10,000.

A man and a woman both aged in their 20s were arrested in connection with the searches and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Speaking in connection to the investigation, Chief Inspector Arthur Davidson said: “While it is deplorable that drugs and drug dealers exist within the community any action we can take to disrupt the sale and supply chain is to be welcomed.

“Our success against drugs would certainly be diminished without the active support of the community and I would again emphasise that any information you provide to us will be acted on.”
