Woman threw TV and Xbox into bath and turned on taps

A woman who threw her then ex-partner's widescreen TV and XBox console into a bath and turned on the taps was upset at the time and 'took her hurt and upset out' on the items, a court has heard.

Sarah Smylie (23), of Drumtara, Ballymena, appeared at the town’s Magistrates Court on Thursday after previously admitting a charge of causing criminal damage. She also ransacked the house and damaged clothing and other items during the rampage just before Valentine’s Day this year.

A prosecutor said in the early hours of February 11 this year a man came back home to find his property damaged.

His then former partner still had a key for the property and had let herself in when he was away.

Defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine said his client was sorry for what happened but she was upset at aspects of the relationship and with drink taken had gone to the property to speak to her former partner.

However, when he was not there, Mr Ballentine said Smylie “took her hurt and upset out on the TV and XBox”.

District Judge Peter King ordered that Smylie pays £220 compensation for the damage and fined the defendant £150.
