The Committee of Ballymena Festival has reminded participants that the closing date for entries for the 2017 event is November 30.

This applies to all categories: speech, drama and music (instrumental and vocal).

One of the many popular events for older contestants is the Vocal Award for Northern Ireland, for a singer aged 18 to 35 years.

First prize in this competition is £400, with a second prize of £100. This award was won in 2016 by Rebecca Murphy from Magherafelt.

Since winning the Award she has been studying for a Masters at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Rebecca said: “Since winning the Northern Ireland Singer Award, I have been able to build on my experience, using the bursary from the award to fund additional singing lessons with teachers and coaches across the UK and Ireland.

“The award has also given me a platform on which to go forward and perform at a higher standard, in competitions at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and beyond. I am grateful for the support Ballymena Festival has given me in developing my career.”
