Funding sought for ‘Games’

An appeal for funds in support of the Northern Ireland team going to the 2014 Commonwealth Games is to be considered by councillors.

It was made to a Council committee last week during a presentation by representatives of the NI Commonwealth Games Council (NICGC).

Councillors were told that the NI team going to Glasgow later this year would be one of the biggest yet, involving some 45 coaches and some 95 athletes, yet to be finally selected.

Mr C Heatley NICGC Executive Officer said that Ballymena “has been very prominent” in the Games for a number of years and confirmed that bowling and cycling coaches from the borough would be involved this year.
