One of the pivotal moments of ‘the troubles’ will be recalled at an historical event in Ballymena on Wednesday evening (May 28).
The Carson Project and the Harryville Partnership are hosting a mini-seminar on at the UWC strike of 1974 which brought thousands onto the streets of Ballymena and led to the failure of the first power sharing experiment at Stormont.
Among those taking part in the evening will be Glenn Barr, who, as a young and radical loyalist spokesman, was one of the key figures in the campaign. Mr. Barr, who has been involved in cross community work for many years, will be the main speaker, giving a valuable overview of the strike and its impact.
The event will take place in the Garryowen Hall on Waveney Road, Ballymena with tea and coffee served at 7pm and the speakers commencing at 7.30 pm.
