Three Mid & East Antrim councillors are to form part of a delegation with other Councils impacted by the Rates Support Grant which will lobby NIO Ministers over their grant allocation.

The Rates Support Grant, which is based on the relative wealth of local authorities, is paid out to Councils whose rate base is assessed as inadequate to meet needs.

In her report on the Grant to Mid & East Antrim Council’s July meeting, last Monday night, Chief Executive Anne Donaghy said the CEOs of the new Councils impacted by the Rates Support Grant had resolved to participate in a joint delegation with DOE and DFP mInisters over the current and future allocations of the grant.

The meeting agreed Cllrs Timothy Gaston, Tommy Nicholl and Robin Cherry as their representatives on the delegation which, Mrs Donaghy said if successful in increasing the Rate Support Grant would see Mid & East Antrim benefit by £173k.
