“To provide the best educational experience for every pupil” has once again been the remit of Ballee Community High School principal, Gillian McCartney, over the past year.
Explaining this to the packed audience at Prize Night, she said: “Not every pupil co-operates. Not every pupil wants the same as I do for them but, I give my commitment, my energy and my passion to doing what is in the child’s best interest. I never give up on a child and neither do my staff.”
She reported that every child left school with a GCSE qualification, enabling access to further education, sixth forms and training courses in order to improve career opportunities.
Of the 68 pupils who were entered, almost 93% achieved five GCSE passes which, the principal pointed out, is above the NI average, with almost 80% achieving five GCSE passes including English and Maths. An increased number of pupils achieved seven GCSE’s including English and Mathematics in the top A*-C grades.
