Cattle rustling concern

Ballymena Council is to establish what action is being taken to curb cattle thefts after it emerged that there had been 87 local incidents of stolen or missing cattle in 2012-13.

At the February monthly Council meeting, Chief Executive Anne Donaghy said the figures related to the Ballymena Divisional Veterinary Office (DBO) area and had been revealed following a question on stolen livestock posed in the Assembly by local DUP MLA Mervyn Storey.

Councillors subsquently agreed her suggestion that Council write to the chairman of the local Police and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) “to make sure that this issue is being deal with and to come back to us with a report”.
