Local Belfast Met bakery student, Michael Clarke, has won a Merir award for Floral Sugar Craft at IFEX 2014. Michael is pictured with his winning edible art and Belfast Met lecturer, Lorna Johnston.

Ahoghill bakery student, Michael Clarke, has beat off competition to win an award for edible art at IFEX 2014.

He received a Certificate of Merit for Floral Sugar Craft.

The talented mature student, who studied the part-time Level 2 Cake Decoration course at Belfast Met, is also a part-time lecturer at the College and was encouraged to enter by his students.

Belfast Met students continued to sweep the board with a host of other awards from the Chef Skills and Edible Art competitions. Catering and bakery students received gold awards for Parade des Chefs and NI Food Heritage categories, with silver awards including Petits Fours and Caloriewise categories and bronze recognition for Culinarian of the Year and Classical Poultry categories.

IFEX is Northern Ireland’s premier showcase of the latest food and drink products, catering equipment and services to food, retail and hospitality industries.
