After two years of intensive campaigning, Kells and Connor Library has received the fantastic news that the threat of closure has been lifted.
Chair of the Community Improvement Association Keith Turner paid tribute of the hard work of everyone in the community and gave particular praise to Sarah Woods and Robin Swann MLA.
He said, “Since it was announced that the library was going to be closed the whole community has rallied round and shown what public opinion can achieve. Sarah, Robin and I have had quarterly meetings with Libraries NI and we have put into place ideas and initiatives to increase usage and membership. “
Although the library will continue to be open it will, as all libraries are, remain under review and urged everyone to maintain the usage
Robin Swann MLA thanked the community who had supported the campaign for their efforts, but the battle continues as it will only be by increased and continual usage that we can secure the long term future of this vital local facility.
In a response to Mr Swann the Culture Minister also paid tribute to the people of Kells and Connor when she said “I recognise the strenuous efforts that local communities such as Kells and Connor have been making to halt declining use of their libraries.”
