Police in Ballymena are investigating suspected child approaches that were reported on the evening of Monday, July 28.

A number of children in the Lantara area reported that a man tried to grab them and then followed them in a silver-coloured Peugeot car. Some of the children also reported that the man had a gun.

Police would like to reassure local people and stress that they are actively investigating the reports as well as stepping up patrols in the area.

Inspector John Allen commented: “I fully understand that this incident will concern parents and the entire community. I am confident that officers are conducting a proactive and thorough investigation, as we seek to understand the nature of these incidents.

“Additional officers have been, and will continue to be dedicated to the area.

“The priority is to keep people safe and the safety of children, in particular, is paramount.”

“If you have any information please call the non-emergency number 101 or speak with one of our officers out on patrol in the local area,” he said.
