Alderman Drew Ritchie has welcomed the £1.5million investment by the DRD in the Antrim area at Stiles Way and Steeple Road.
“As someone who has been involved in the local road safety committee for many years I am certain this is great news for people who use this busy road and its junctions,” Ald. Ritchie said.
Ald. Ritchie, secretary of Antrim Road Safety Committee, said the group had been successful in the past on helping to achieve a 40mph along the entire length of the road, adding that the the proposed upgrading of the existing pathways, construction of a cycle lane and the the proposed new layout later in the year to the Stiles Way/Steeple Road junction allowing more capacity at the junction, will encourage pedestrians/cyclists safer access to schools, places of work and other public services.
“Some of the work will not start to later in the year causing minimal disruption,” Ald. Ritchie said.
He added: “Antrim have some of the safest, busiest and best road networks in Northern Ireland and this investment by Minister Kennedy will maintain and improve road safety at this busy area.”
