Students, parents and staff of Slemish College were delighted with GCSE and A level performances with many students achieving top grades in the recent examinations, across the curriculum.

Principal Dr Paul McHugh said: “Our College’s commitment to ensuring each individual fulfils their true potential was reflected by the pleasing number of As and A*s achieved not only in academic subjects but also in vocational areas.”

At A Level, the College saw marked improvement this year with the percentage of students getting three or more A Levels at grades A*-C increasing by 21% from last summer.

Ninety-eight per cent of students achieved at least two good A level passes whilst a quarter of students achieved a grade A, in-line with targets and a reflection of the careful tracking and monitoring system employed by the college. Some subjects were particularly successful with all Further Maths and all Media Studies students achieving a grade B or above at A2. Other subjects such as Business Studies, Travel & Tourism, Geography, History, Religious Studies and Technology and Design secured 100% of all grades at C or above. Likewise almost a third of all Law students achieved a Grade A* or A at A2.

Particular mention must be given to Bridget Keenan (A*A*AA); Conor Crilly (AAAA); Paul Davison (AAA); Josh Hunter (A*AA); Amy O’Hara (A*A*A); Lee Mason (A*AAB); Sally Flaherty (AAB); Michelle McAuley (AAB) and Nicole Quinn (AAB).”

Likewise the GCSE examinations were most encouraging with over three quarters of students achieving five or more subjects at Grades A*-C.

Some excellent performances were evident in specific subject areas with 100% of students achieving a Grade C or above in Additional Mathematics, English Literature, Information Technology, Music, Polish, Spanish and OCR Nationals. A number of students performed exceptionally well with the highest grades achieved, including: Abigail Fletcher (9A*,1B) Kirstyn Sampson (8A*.1A,1B) Lauren McCartney (5A* 4A 1B) Lauren Johnston (5A*,3A,1B,1C) Timothy McGarvey (3A*,6A,1B) Jack Haveron (2A*,5A,3B) Hannah Crawford (2A*,7A,B) Allan Watts (2A* 3A,5B) Robyn Dorsett (2A*,5A,3B) Hannah Black (A*,7A,2B) Caitlyn Kennedy (A*,3A,6B) Brooke Mawhinney (7A,3B), Hannah Orr (A*,3A,6B).
