£465,000 resurfacing scheme to start at Moorfields
THE first stage of a £465,000 resurfacing scheme on the A36 Moorfields Road, Ballymena, has been announced.
This latest strengthening scheme on the strategic trunk road from Ballymena to Larne will provide 6.5km of new asphalt road surface from the Speerstown Road, Moorfields, to the Ballynashee Road.
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy announced that it would get underway on Monday, March 11, and would take about one week to complete.
The Minister said: “This scheme demonstrates my Department’s commitment to maintaining the main trunk roads which are vital in providing a reliable network for the recovery and growth of the local economy.”
Due to the available road width at this location and the requirement to protect the safety of the travelling public and contractors during the surfacing works it will be necessary to close the Moorfields Road at various times throughout March. The road will close for this first stage of works from March 11-15.
To help minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public diversionary routes will be signposted via the B59 Tully Road towards Doagh for Larne bound traffic. Ballymena bound traffic will be diverted via the B94 Rathkeel Road towards Broughshane.
Roads Service have pointed out that the above planned dates are subject to favourable weather conditions and Roads service will keep the public informed of any change.
Road users can keep up to date with any revisions using the Roadworks Report on http://www.TrafficwatchNI.com.
Roads Service has carefully programmed the works operations and traffic management arrangements in order to minimise any inconvenience to the public, however, it says motorists should be aware that some delays may be expected and that additional time should be allowed when planning any journeys.
