Ballymena Baptist brings Bethlehem to Ballymena

BALLYMENA Baptist Church has been busy recreating the village of Bethlehem for an exhibition in the Ballymena North Business and Recreation Centre, Cushendall Road, from December 13-15.

On arrival, visitors will enter a time machine that will transport them back 2,000 years to the streets of Bethlehem, a little town that existed long before coloured lights, reindeer, or Santa Claus.

Wise Men are following a special star, Roman soldiers walk the streets, a king is on the prowl; all because this village is on the brink of something immense - a baby has been born who will forever change the course of human history.

Jennifer Holmes from Ballymena Baptist says: “We would love for people of all ages to see this village as it really was, and experience for themselves the magic and wonder of the first Christmas.”

“When visitors take the journey back in time they will get the opportunity to interact with the Wise Men, street sellers, and King Herod. There will be the smells of a Middle Eastern village from that era, everything from the sweet fragrance of incense to the more earthy smells of live animals in the stable!”

She also pointed out that Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus have left the village unaware that King Herod is looking for them, so his men might want to question visitors about their whereabouts!

Admission is free and the village is open to the public on Thursday and Friday, December 13 and 14, from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and on Saturday, December 15, from noon-6pm.

Daytime Thursday and Friday has been allocated for schools and there are still only a few slots available on Friday morning for these groups. Free secure parking is available at the Business & Recreation Centre.
