Ballymena could host world games ‘opener’ at Showgrounds says Frew

Cllr Paul Frew DUP MLA for North Antrim has spoken with council officials to ascertain if it would be possible to host the opening of the World Police and Fire Games in Ballymena Showgrounds .

Frew stated: “Ballymena Council have made contact with organisers of the World Police and Fire games to make them aware that we have a venue in the Ballymena Showgrounds that would meet their needs as a venue to host the opening ceremony of the games . Ballymena is already hosting a sporting event in the games , there is no reason why we couldn’t host the opening ceremony.

“Ballymena council have proven time after time that we can work with any group to put on an event and performance that is second to none .Ballymena Showgrounds with its infrastructure around our centre arena , the centre arena itself and the fact that we have a great network of roads from Belfast and the rest of the country right to the gate of the Showgrounds. I would ask the organisers to seriously consider using the venue and the officials at hand ,who can deliver for them ,to ensure that the World Police and Fire Games can be a tremendous success . I will do everything I can to help and assist them on this issue “
