Cullybackey hit and run - info. sought

POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a hit and run collision on Main Street, Cullybackey, at around 3.30am, the early hours of Sunday, March 17.

Police want to trace the driver of a black vehicle, possibly a Volkswagen people carrier, with a taxi roof sign.

The vehicle was travelling along Main Street in the direction of Ballymena when it struck a female pedestrian, without stopping at the scene of the accident. The vehicle lost a wing mirror as a result of the accident.

The female pedestrian was treated at the roadside by paramedics and taken to hospital. Her injuries are serious but not life threatening.

It is understood that several taxis were travelling in the opposite direction at the time of the accident and police would like to speak to drivers or passengers who may have witnessed the collision.

Witnesses can call police at Ballymena on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.
