Flag protest expected in Ballymena

editorial image

A loyalist protest against the decision to restrict the flying of the Union Flag on Belfast City Hall is expected in Ballymena town centre tonight (Thursday).

Notice of the protest has been flagged up on social media site ‘Facebook’ - with an appeal from organisers for a ‘peaceful and dignified’ event.

Protesters have decided to focus on the Braid Arts Centre where a meeting of Ballymena Borough Council’s planning committee is due to take place at 7.30pm.

So far, there has been no comment forthcoming from the Council but police have already stated they are monitoring social network sites.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Union Flags have been appearing at various locations in the district - most notably in Broughshane.
